Cookie Monster Leads Cubs Fans in Singing ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’

Since legendary Cubs announcer Harry Caray’s death in 1998, countless celebrities have appeared at Wrigley Field to lead the crowd in singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the 7th inning stretch. Nevertheless, Cubs fans appeared especially surprised — not to mention excited — by Thursday’s appearance by a TV icon: the Cookie Monster.

After the deafening roar from the stands died down, the blue fur-covered Muppet kicked off his appearance by telling the crowd, “Today, C is for Cubbies!” — a reference to his “Sesame Street” song “C is for Cookies.” He then led fans in singing the traditional tune, finishing it up by yelling, “Let’s get some cookies!” — a take on Caray’s catchphrase, “Let’s get some runs!”
