23 countries around the world want in on Apple and Google contact tracing technology, the companies said Wednesday.
The initial versions allow government produced mobile apps to track where users have been and who they’ve come in close contact with for at least five minutes. A user who tests positive could use the app to anonymously notify other users.
Some governments welcome the tech while others say it doesn’t go far enough in providing officials with user identification and location information.
Reuters reports Apple and Google rules don’t allow governments to force involuntary use. Still, at least some apps have sidestepped the rules.
Would you use the app? Do you you feel it infringes on personal privacy? Do you use other apps that already do that?
